Trustee: Brian Smouha
Brian Smouha was a founding member of the Institute for Philanthropy and is now a trustee. He was a senior partner at Deloitte & Touche specialising in financial institutions worldwide and was a founding member and the first chairman of Guidestar UK. Brian has significant experience in conducting and co-ordinating professional services in international and multi-cultural environments. His expertise in negotiating, advising and settling international disputes benefited numerous clients as well as creditors. He retired from the Partnership on 31st May, 2001.

- Advised governments, central banks, government agencies and international lending agencies
- Audits of a wide range of multinational financial institutions and smaller institutions
- Advised on acquisitions, disposals and restructuring of banks
- Led negotiations on the disposal of banks and settlement of international banking disputes
- Consulted by central banks on problems within individual banks
- Has led investigations into major financial frauds and has given expert evidence in U.K. and U.S.
courts - Has lectured widely on risk, bank regulation and banks in crisis.
Brian has also served as a director of Barclays Private Bank and British Maritime Technology. He is a member of Cohort 15 of The Philanthropy Workshop.
