Trustee: William M. Dietel

 

Bill Dietel has combined careers in educational, philanthropic and nonprofit sector leadership spanning more than 40 years. He was Assistant Dean of the College, Amherst College, 1959 - 1961; Principal, Emma Willard School, Troy, New York; and President/CEO Rockefeller Brothers Fund, 1975 - 1987.

He has had extensive experience as a board member and officer of a broad array of nonprofit organizations, for example, President of the Board of Trustees of the Pierson-Lovelace Foundation, Guidestar International, American Farmland Trust, F. B. Heron Foundation, Brain Mapping Medical Research Center at UCLA Medical Center; and board service on The New York Public Library, Winrock International (Institute for Agricultural Development), Vassar College, Institute for Philanthropy in London and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

Locally, Bill chairs the Investment Committees for the Child Care and Learning Center and the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation and serves on the Investment Committee for the Headwaters Foundation.

Mr. Dietel is also a senior partner of Dietel Partners, LLC, a philanthropic advisory firm with offices in Flint Hill, Virginia, Prairie Crossing, Illinois, and Cumberland, Maine.

A 1945 graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, he received his BA from Princeton University in 1950 and an MA and PhD from Yale University. He also studied at the Institute of Historical Research at the University of London. Married to the former Linda Remington, Mr. Dietel has five children, eleven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He and his wife reside at Over Jordan Farm in Flint Hill, Rappahannock County, Virginia.
